Ford returns to M-Sport with Cumbrian base for 2028 World Rally Championship
Automotive giant Ford has decided to return to its base in Cumbria to participate in the World Rally Championship as a manufacturer in 2028.
Ford has announced that it will make an official return to the M-Sport center in Cumbria to compete in the World Rally Championship as a manufacturer in the 2028 season.
Renewed Manufacturer Support with M-Sport
Operating at Dovenby Hall near Cockermouth, automotive company M-Sport had run the brand's World Rally Championship program until Ford withdrew its full factory support in 2012.
M-Sport founder Malcolm Wilson stated that this vote of confidence from Ford shows that one should never give up. The company is experiencing great excitement with this strategic return.
Job Growth and New Targets
Ford's return to M-Sport will add approximately 50 new job positions to the existing workforce of 230, creating economic activity in the region.
The team aims to win the WRC manufacturers' championship in 2029 by developing a new car. The management of the expansion plans will be undertaken by team principal Richard Millener.
Preparations for the Upcoming Season
Although Ford's full factory-level return will take place in 2028, the brand will continue to be represented in the WRC next year.
M-Sport will continue its championship fight in the upcoming season by racing an upgraded version of the Ford Fiesta Rally2 car.
