The gap between direct investment inflows and liquidated investments in Turkey continues to narrow in the January-August 2026 period. During this period, $5.6 billion in new investment inflows were recorded, while the amount of liquidated investments reached $2.5 billion. These data reveal that the ratio of liquidated amounts to new investment inflows has risen to 44.6 percent.

Economic columnist Alaattin Aktaş, while evaluating the tendency of foreign investors to leave Turkey, pointed to concerns regarding legal security and the perception that investments are not sufficiently profitable as the primary factors. Aktaş stated that this ratio, which was at 25 percent in 2017 and 24 percent in 2020, shows that Turkey is struggling to retain investments under the current picture.

Assessment: Aktaş anticipates that the effects of the fund crisis that came to the agenda in September have not yet been reflected in these data, but that liquidation rates may increase in the coming periods. Furthermore, it is emphasized that the withdrawal of domestic investors from the market due to losses in value at Borsa Istanbul and a loss of confidence is creating similar pressure on foreign investors.
