According to data from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), foreign currency commercial loans rose to 211.1 billion dollars as of October 9, 2026, reaching an all-time peak. Despite the record level, signals of a slowdown in the growth momentum of the credit volume were recorded.

Both a record and a deceleration were observed simultaneously in foreign currency commercial loans. Having peaked at 187.4 billion dollars in 2018, these loans declined in the following years to drop to their lowest level of recent years at 125.5 billion dollars in 2024. Increasing by approximately 68 percent compared to the trough in 2024, the loan volume set a new record with the increases in 2025 and 2026.

However, according to the data, despite reaching the historical peak, a slowdown in the growth rate was observed. It was determined that the increase, particularly since April, remained below an average of 0.5 percent per month.
