AI cloud infrastructure-focused startup General Compute has raised $100 million in a Series A funding round led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures. The company's post-money valuation has reached $800 million.

Founded by CEO Finn Puklowski, General Compute had a valuation of $60 million in its seed round in May, and has significantly increased its valuation with this new investment. The company stands out by using inference-focused custom chips from Nvidia competitors such as SambaNova, Positron, and Cerebras, instead of traditional graphics processing units.

Using existing data center spaces and converted bitcoin mining sites to host its infrastructure, the startup plans to commission 75 megawatts of computing capacity in 2027. This investment process took place following a customer agreement generating $100 million in annual recurring revenue. James Palmer of Blackbird Ventures stated that the investment stems from the increase in open-weighted inference demand and the need for a distribution partner for custom chip manufacturers.
