Greenhouse Gas Levels in the Atmosphere Reached Record Highs in 2025
According to a new report by the World Meteorological Organization, greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere reached an all-time high in 2025. This situation makes long-term temperature increases inevitable.
The Greenhouse Gas Bulletin published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) revealed that carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, and nitrous oxide levels rose to record levels in 2025. While the global average surface CO2 concentration was measured at 426.8 ppm, this value corresponds to 153 percent of the pre-industrial level in 1750.
WMO Deputy Secretary-General Ko Barrett stated that greenhouse gases are trapping an unprecedented amount of heat in the atmosphere, and this situation fuels more intense weather events. The data in question serves as a fundamental scientific reference for the negotiations at the COP 31 climate conference to be held in Antalya between November 9–20, 2026.
