Predicting weather subseasons with machine learning

Hannah Guan, a sophomore at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), contributed to the development of machine learning algorithms that predict subseasonal weather and precipitation patterns during her summer internship at Microsoft Research.

Hannah Guan continued her research even after her internship ended, earning the title of first author on an article published in the journal Nature. In her work, she focused on probabilistic subseasonal forecasts aimed at modeling errors in existing models rather than directly predicting the weather.
