Hastings Residents Report Issues Over Bayeux Tapestry Tickets
Residents of the Hastings area were unable to secure early-access tickets for the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum due to disruptions on the telephone line.
Helena Dollimore, Member of Parliament for Hastings and Rye, stated that citizens in the area known as 1066 Country were kept waiting for hours due to disruptions in the telephone system for Bayeux Tapestry tickets at the British Museum, while VIPs and corporate figures gained seamless access.
It had been announced that residents of the region would be granted early ticketing rights for the 70-meter-long Bayeux Tapestry exhibited at the British Museum, and that starting Monday, tickets could be obtained by calling the box office with proof of address. However, MP Helena Dollimore stated that citizens were left waiting on the line for hours and that she herself was unable to get a ticket. In contrast, it was reported that VIP guests, business people, and celebrities participated in events at the museum without issue, and some individuals toured the museum and took photos through private tours.
A museum spokesperson drew attention to high demand, stating that early access rights were not guaranteed and were applied on a first-come, first-served basis, and that the public could benefit from general sales or future ticket allocations. On the other hand, it was noted that the museum's admission fees are 33 pounds for adults during peak hours and 27 pounds at other times, while this fee is 12 euros at its original home in Bayeux.
