Hofstra University computer science student Mani Tofigh is preparing to present his research paper, which examines a technical challenge in cloud computing performance, at the Association for Computing Machinery's 2026 Cloud Computing Symposium in Singapore this November.

Mani Tofigh, a member of the Hofstra University class of 2026 in computer science, is taking the research he conducted under faculty mentorship during his undergraduate studies to an international platform. Tofigh is the lead author of the research paper titled "Not All Huge Pages are Real: Detecting and Avoiding Misaligned Huge Pages in Public Cloud Virtual Machines." Working alongside Jianchen Shan, an associate professor of computer science at the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, Tofigh examined memory management mismatches that affect cloud computing performance and the interactions between virtual machines and physical hardware. The research aims to detect and resolve these mismatches to increase computing speed.

A research assistant funded by the National Science Foundation, Tofigh has also served as an ASPiRe research fellow and a peer teacher. As the first student in Hofstra's computer science research concentration, which was established in the fall of 2025, Tofigh plans to continue his academic career by pursuing a PhD in computer science at Columbia University following his presentation in Singapore.
