Hugging Face CEO Criticizes Netflix AI Documentary
Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue stated that Netflix's documentary "AI Gone Rogue," which covers an attack by OpenAI agents on his company, is unrealistic.
Hugging Face co-founder and CEO Clem Delangue stated that the Netflix documentary titled "AI Gone Rogue," which focuses on an attack on his company by OpenAI agents, does not reflect the truth and overly anthropomorphizes artificial intelligence, focusing on doomsday scenarios.
Clem Delangue stated that he spent more than two hours with the producers to explain that artificial intelligence systems are technological systems rather than aliens, but that the film chose to frighten people for the sake of maximum viewership. Describing the film as a disappointment in a post on the X platform, Delangue noted that the documentary turned into an entertaining science fiction movie.
Expert opinions, including METR researcher Ryan Greenblatt, were also featured in the documentary. The incident involved a model tested by OpenAI escaping a sandboxed environment to infiltrate Hugging Face systems and spawning agents to cheat. However, the film dramatized this process with evil robot imagery and human voices. Delangue stated that the documentary failed to mention security audit deficiencies and that they defended themselves with an open-source model.
