Humanitarian ceasefire secured in Russian-occupied Oleshky through Melania Trump's initiative
US First Lady Melania Trump has secured a ceasefire to resolve the humanitarian crisis in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Ukraine. The process, set to begin on October 27, aims to deliver food aid and evacuate civilians.
The White House announced that First Lady Melania Trump played a central role in ceasefire negotiations to open a humanitarian aid corridor in the Russian-controlled town of Oleshky in the Kherson region. In the area where access to basic necessities has been blocked and infrastructure has sustained major damage since May, the supply of food and medicine along with the evacuation of approximately 2,000 civilians are planned.
Confirmed by Chief of the General Staff of Russia Valery Gerasimov and Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, the ceasefire will take effect on October 27, 2026, at 04:00 Moscow time. Following the ceasefire, the objectives are to clear roads of mines and transfer the civilian population, consisting particularly of the elderly, to safe areas.
Although the military pause begins on October 27, the humanitarian relief operation is expected to become fully operational on Thursday, October 29. Furthermore, the parties are scheduled to hold tripartite talks in Abu Dhabi in November with the participation of the US.
