Hungary and Poland defend tough migration policies as France reels from violent unrest

During protests in France held over economic hardships, insufficient education budgets, and high living costs, more than 800 people were detained in incidents that resulted in looting and buildings being set on fire. Following the violent events, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that their countries would maintain their uncompromising stance against illegal migration.

During the protests in France, violent incidents involving pro-Palestinian and communist groups saw buildings set on fire, while images of burning vehicles and historic structures resonated across Europe. Following these scenes in France and Italy, the leaders of Hungary and Poland drew attention to the importance of strict migration policies and border protection.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his country resolutely defends its borders and will deport those acting unlawfully, while Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar emphasized that Europe can count on Hungary and that they will not weaken border protection. According to expert assessments, Central and Eastern European countries link their European Union memberships with national identity while viewing the unrest in France as a justification for stricter border controls, and this situation is being used for domestic political messages ahead of upcoming election cycles.
