IMF Warns of AI Share Crash and Global Financial Stability Risks
The International Monetary Fund stated that overvaluations and borrowing in the artificial intelligence sector could threaten global financial stability.
In its published Global Financial Stability Report, the International Monetary Fund announced that a potential crash in artificial intelligence stocks poses a major risk to global markets, drawing attention to high borrowing and circular financing agreements.
Artificial Intelligence Threat to Global Financial Stability
In the latest report published by the International Monetary Fund, it was emphasized that a potential crash in stock prices within the artificial intelligence sector could endanger financial stability worldwide.
Fund officials stated that the astronomical valuations reached by artificial intelligence companies and their steadily increasing debt burdens are elevating systemic risks to dangerous levels.
Notable Risk Factors in Markets
In the analyses conducted, the possibility of a market crash in artificial intelligence was highlighted as one of the three main factors threatening stability, alongside rising government borrowing costs and the threat of large-scale cyberattacks.
It was specifically noted that the exposure of the rest of the world to US assets, particularly artificial intelligence, is at its highest level in history.
Interconnected Financing and Sectoral Regulations
The report addressed the tight interconnections among major artificial intelligence companies, high levels of borrowing, and the three hundred billion dollars in circular financing transactions that have taken place between weak AI firms and tech giants over the past three years.
Meanwhile, Nikhil Rathi, head of the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, called on small businesses to obtain insurance against cybersecurity threats arising from artificial intelligence.
