International drug cartel leader sought by Belgium captured in Istanbul
S.G., identified as a manager of one of Belgium's largest cocaine cartels and sought internationally, was detained in an operation carried out in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul.
S.G., determined to be a top executive of one of the largest cocaine cartels in Belgium and sought on an international level, was captured in a pinpoint operation conducted by Istanbul Police Department teams in Zeytinburnu.
Following joint technical and physical tracking by the Istanbul Police Department's Narcotic Crimes Bureau and Intelligence Branch teams, S.G.'s hiding address in Istanbul was identified, and the suspect was detained in the operation.
According to information obtained within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect led the criminal organization responsible for shipping 2 tons of cocaine, hidden in 6 tons of copper powder from Colombia, to Belgium and other European countries. The detained S.G. is expected to be referred to judicial authorities following police procedures and the extradition process to Belgium is expected to be initiated.
