Iran Issues Legal Action Warning to Sinokor Shipping in Strait of Hormuz
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority has announced that legal proceedings will be initiated against Sinokor Shipping, one of the world's largest tanker companies, starting November 1 due to alleged transit violations.
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA), established by Iran, has decided to impose sanctions on vessels belonging to Sinokor Shipping Company, alleging violations of transit rules in the Strait of Hormuz. It was stated that the company is the operator with the highest number of violations in the last three months, and legal proceedings are set to begin as of November 1.
In a statement released via social media, the PGSA noted that vessels belonging to Sinokor Shipping were the group with the most transit violations over the past three months and that sanctions had previously been applied to seven ships. However, no detailed information regarding the content of these sanctions was shared. The authority warned cargo owners, stakeholders, and insurance companies about the legal process that will commence on November 1.
Sinokor, the world's largest owner of supertankers, holds a critical position in oil shipments conducted through the Strait of Hormuz. According to maritime data, approximately 40 percent of the crude oil passing through the strait last month was transported by the company's vessels. Iran began monitoring strait transits and reporting alleged violations through the PGSA, which it established earlier this year.
