The Istanbul Circassian Gathering is held on October 24-25 at Müze Gazhane with Caucasian dances, a traditional wedding, talks, and workshops.
Organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture, the Istanbul Circassian Gathering is taking place on October 24–25 at Müze Gazhane. The two-day event features a wide-ranging program spanning from Caucasian dances to a traditional Circassian wedding, film screenings, talks, and workshops.
The Istanbul Circassian Gathering aims to transmit Circassian culture across different generations and bring it together with broader audiences. Open to all, the event explores cultural identity, belonging, and memory through various artistic disciplines. While Caucasian music and dances are performed on the main stage of Müze Gazhane for two days, five different ensembles take the stage each day. Within the scope of the program, a traditional Circassian wedding (CEUG) is also held under the leadership of the Istanbul Caucasian Culture Association.
In talks attended by academics, researchers, writers, and artists, Circassian identity, belonging, cultural memory, Xabze, music, dance, and literature are discussed. Films and documentaries on intergenerational relations as well as migration, memory, and traditions are screened. Within the scope of the gathering, workshops on traditional handicrafts, clothing, cooking, and cultural practices are organized, while publishing houses and non-governmental organizations also take part with their booths.
