Joshua Achiam Joins the Foundation for American Innovation as a Senior Fellow

Independent AI researcher Joshua Achiam, who spent many years working on AI safety research and held various leadership roles at OpenAI, has joined the Foundation for American Innovation as a Non-resident Senior Fellow.

Joshua Achiam conducts research on how rapid advancements in artificial intelligence may create new needs in the fields of public policy and national security. Having held research and leadership positions in AI safety at OpenAI for nine years, Achiam served as Head of Mission Alignment in 2025 and as Chief Futurist in 2026.

Achiam has joined the Foundation for American Innovation in connection with the Institute for Progress. Against the backdrop of reports suggesting that CAISSI could come under the administration of the White House, he has addressed topics such as the acceleration emergency, mapping the frontiers of scientific discovery, and federal job guarantees at Berkeley.
