Leaders to be consulted for the TBMM Monitoring Commission in the Terror-Free Turkey process
TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will meet with political party leaders regarding the establishment of the TBMM Monitoring Commission to track the terrorist organization's dissolution and disarmament within the framework of the Terror-Free Turkey process.
Within the scope of the Framework Law enacted during the Terror-Free Turkey process, a Monitoring Commission is being formed in the TBMM to track the terrorist organization's self-dissolution and disarmament process. TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş will meet with leaders of political parties with and without groups in parliament to request that they provide members for the commission.
According to the provision in the Framework Law, the Monitoring Commission to be established to monitor the terrorist organization's dissolution and disarmament process will be formed without waiting for confirmation and determination decisions. TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş is planned to come together starting next week with the leaders of the AK Party, New Party, MHP, DEM Party, CHP, and New Way, which have groups in Parliament. Kurtulmuş will also hold meetings with the leaders or representatives of parties without groups in parliament and with İYI Party Chairman.
The number of members, working procedures, and areas of responsibility of the commission will be discussed in the meetings. Unlike similar disarmament processes around the world, Turkey has adopted a unique model where the TBMM itself will assume oversight instead of international actors or "third eye" mechanisms such as the United Nations. The Monitoring Commission will undertake the tasks of monitoring activities within the scope of the process, reporting, making recommendations to institutions, and preparing legal proposals.
