Limited Flights Begin at Saudi Airports and Attack Occurs
While King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh partially reopened for domestic flights, one person was killed in an attack on King Fahd Airport in Dammam.
King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, partially reopened for domestic flights on Wednesday following a series of Houthi attacks. Meanwhile, an attack on King Fahd International Airport in the east reportedly resulted in the death of a Saudi citizen and left eight people injured.
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation announced that an attack took place against King Fahd International Airport late Wednesday. In the attack, a Saudi resident lost their life, eight people were injured, and material damage occurred at the airport. Authorities did not provide information regarding the perpetrators of the attack or share details. Global flight tracking service Flightradar24 stated that incoming flights to the airport in Dammam were diverted to other directions.
At Riyadh's main airport, however, a limited number of aircraft landed and took off two days after authorities informed airlines they could resume operations with prior permission. According to FlightAware data, Saudia and Flynas airlines operated flights on Wednesday.
Following these developments, the U.S. State Department called on certain diplomats and family members of government employees to leave Saudi Arabia due to attacks by Iran-backed Houthi groups in the country and growing fears of escalation.
