Lionel Messi Arrived in Oviedo to Receive the Princess of Asturias Award

Argentine footballer Lionel Messi arrived in Oviedo, the capital of the Asturias region, on Thursday along with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo to receive the 2026 Princess of Asturias Sports Award. Ahead of the visit, which created great excitement in the city, hundreds of fans enthusiastically welcomed the star player.

Lionel Messi arrived in the city along with his wife Antonela Roccuzzo at around 13:00. Welcomed in Oviedo with applause and bagpipe music by Teresa Sanjurjo from the Princess of Asturias Foundation, the Inter Miami player spent a few minutes signing autographs and taking photos with his fans. Tickets allocated for Messi's meeting with young people at the Oviedo Sports Palace sold out in 13 minutes.

Messi, who will receive his award at a ceremony to be held on Friday at the Campoamor Theater, was deemed worthy of this award by the jury due to his 47 trophies in his career as well as his charitable work supporting disadvantaged children's access to education and health services.
