Madison Included on National Geographic's 2027 Travel List
National Geographic has selected Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, as one of the best travel destinations for 2027 due to its bike paths and local attractions.
Madison, the capital of Wisconsin, has been featured by National Geographic among the "Best Places in the World to Travel in 2027." Chosen among 25 different destinations worldwide by the publication's community of writers, photojournalists, and explorers, the city stood out with its bicycle-friendly structure, trails, and local attractions.
Ellie Westman Chin, president and CEO of Destination Madison, stated that they learned they would be on the list in July, but keeping it a secret until the day of the announcement was quite difficult. The national publication described Madison as "the Midwest's most effortless getaway," drawing attention to the city's college town identity, abundant green spaces, and trails.
While highlighting over 200 miles of hiking and biking trails in the city, it was stated that the e-bike sharing system with hundreds of stations provides convenience. Additionally, it was noted that the trail network around Lake Monona will be expanded through the LakeWay Project, which is planned for completion by June 2028. Along with cycling amenities, the Dane County Farmers' Market, the new Madison Public Market, and chef-driven restaurants were also emphasized as key attractions.
