Trump says "massive" oil, gas and mineral exploration in Greenland is "getting ready to begin"

US President Donald Trump announced via the Truth Social platform that massive oil, gas, and mineral exploration work is about to begin in Greenland.

Exploration Activities Announced to Begin

US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social social media account that preparations for large-scale oil, gas, and mineral exploration activities in Greenland have been completed and will soon commence. Sharing no further details in his statement, Trump noted that experts have stated that the amount of accessible oil in the region is much greater than in almost all terrestrial regions in the world.

Security Agreement and Strategic Location

This announcement came more than four weeks after the signing of a new security agreement between the US, Greenland, and Denmark aimed at strengthening military and security presence on the island. Trump also emphasized that Greenland plays a critical role in US defense in Europe, noting that any potential attack would have to pass through this semi-autonomous island.

Military Bases and Resource Cooperation

The new agreement grants the US broad access to the island's airspace and territory focused on military purposes, resource extraction, and mineral cooperation. Within the framework of the agreement, the US gains the right to expand the Pituffik Space Base, establish new bases in Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig, while non-NATO countries are prevented from establishing bases without an agreement.
