Major US Banks Prepare for Risks of Autonomous AI Agents
Giant banks such as Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, JPMorgan, and Wells Fargo are developing emergency plans against the risk of financial instability that could be created by autonomous AI agents performing transactions on behalf of customers.
Leading US financial institutions are updating security procedures to manage the potential risks posed by autonomous AI agents, given authorization to access user accounts, carrying out transactions without human intervention.
Major banks such as Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, JPMorgan, and Wells Fargo are working on new security measures and policy updates to limit financial risks that could stem from the activities of autonomous AI agents. Banks are concerned about the uncertainty created by these agents, which call call centers or perform account transactions without direct user commands.
Torsten Slok, chief economist at Apollo Global Management, states that while AI agents optimize returns, they could lead to the withdrawal of low-cost deposits in banks, which could create pressure on the financial system. Meanwhile, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon draws attention to the fact that these technologies could act in unexpected ways, emphasizing that AI agents must be strictly managed.
