Marquette University Implements Artificial Intelligence Task Force Recommendations
Marquette University is advancing new task force recommendations prepared in the areas of institutional tools, governance, and education as part of its artificial intelligence strategy.
Marquette University is implementing a series of recommendations developed by the University-wide Artificial Intelligence Task Force as the next phase of its mission-driven approach to artificial intelligence.
Established throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, the Artificial Intelligence Task Force brought together more than 60 faculty and administrative staff members from across the university to examine the impacts of artificial intelligence on teaching and learning, clinical training, research, administrative operations, and student well-being and success. The group's work included reviewing emerging trends, examining practices at similar institutions, gathering campus feedback, and developing recommendations grounded in Marquette's Catholic and Jesuit mission. A campus-wide survey that yielded approximately 650 responses also contributed to the process.
The task force's recommendations were presented to the Executive Leadership Team and are helping shape the university's ongoing efforts to support the responsible and mission-aligned use of artificial intelligence. The recommendations were grouped into three categories: governance and guidance, institutional tools and investments, and education and AI fluency. Proposed actions include developing an AI governance structure, updating relevant institutional policies, communicating shared guiding principles, expanding educational opportunities, and identifying priority projects that can inform future investments and decision-making processes.
Additionally, additional priorities include selecting and supporting institutionally approved artificial intelligence tools, broadening access to guidance and training resources, and ensuring the university's technological infrastructure can support evolving needs. The recommendations are intended to help Marquette foster innovation while maintaining appropriate safeguards around privacy, security, academic integrity, ethical decision-making, and student well-being. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to visit the centralized AI resource website, which serves as the primary hub for guidance, approved tools, training opportunities, policies, and best practices.
