McKinsey is making job applicants spar with a fake AI client

Consulting firm McKinsey & Company is preparing to test a new method that involves entry-level candidates conducting a ten-minute interview with an AI-simulated client during the interview process.

AI-based interview process

Consulting firm McKinsey & Company is beginning to test an AI-powered simulation tool for entry-level candidates in its recruitment process.

Candidates are expected to conduct a ten-minute interview with a client simulated by artificial intelligence during this process.

Scope and details of the simulation

The AI simulation in question is intended to reflect eighty percent of the scenarios consultants might encounter in their daily work.

The system is not designed to mimic extreme or unpredictable client behaviors, focusing instead on routine business situations.

Human experts will conduct the evaluation

The AI tool will not directly score the candidates, and the evaluation process will be carried out by human observers.

Human managers present in the room throughout the process will observe how successfully candidates handle the simulated situations.

Tested in North American offices

McKinsey's new tool will be tested during the fall term on undergraduate students applying for business analyst positions in certain North American offices.

Under this pilot application, hundreds of candidates are projected to go through the AI-simulated interview experience.
