Prof. Dr. Dilek Benk Şilfeler, Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Medipol Mega University Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Sena Tolu, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist, issued warnings regarding physical changes during the menopause period and the protection of bone health in statements made on the occasion of October 18 World Menopause Day and October 20 World Osteoporosis Day.

While menopause means the permanent cessation of menstrual bleeding with the end of the female reproductive period, the average age of menopause in Turkey ranges between 46 and 48. Prof. Dr. Dilek Benk Şilfeler stated that the most important factor determining the age of menopause is genetic predisposition, and that chronic diseases, long-term stress, smoking, chemotherapy, and surgical removal of the ovaries can also affect this process. While hot flashes at night, mood disorders, and brain fog may be observed during this period, the reduction in bone density, weight gain, and the risk of cardiovascular diseases are also of long-term importance.
