Meta May Postpone Implementation of Controversial New Business Terms
Meta announced that it could postpone the effective date of its new business terms beyond November 20 due to artificial intelligence training and publishers' reactions.
Meta is preparing to postpone the November 20 implementation date of its new business terms following concerns and reactions from publishers regarding artificial intelligence training.
Following concerns that Meta could train its artificial intelligence models through news sites using Facebook and Instagram, and intense reactions from publishers, Meta announced that it could postpone the implementation of the new business terms beyond November 20. Meta Communications Director Andy Stone stated in a post on X that they do not plan policy changes without full consultation with industry groups and leaders.
The terms, which were previously planned to take effect on October 30, had created the perception that Meta could scrape content to train its products. Although the company removed this wording, legal experts stated that the possibility has not been completely eliminated. It was stated that the process could extend beyond November 20 and that current conditions remain in effect. On the other hand, figures such as Senator Marsha Blackburn and Senator Adam Schiff, along with the News/Media Alliance, also voiced their reactions against the changes.
