It’s ‘incomprehensible’ that Instagram allowed an AI image of Mia Goth to spread, say her reps

Following news of famous actress Mia Goth's divorce, a fake AI-generated image circulated on Instagram featuring a striking statement, prompting sharp criticism from her representatives.

Fake Image Emerging After Divorce

Immediately after news broke that actress Mia Goth and actor-filmmaker Shia LaBeouf were getting a divorce, a striking post appeared on social media. Shared by a fan account with a verified blue checkmark, the image spread rapidly.

Content of the Image and Media Echoes

The shared post showed Goth wearing a t-shirt with the phrase "MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN" written in black letters. Beyoncé's song "Single Ladies" was added to the post, and the content—which received hundreds of thousands of likes—was reported as real by some entertainment outlets.

Sharp Criticism from Representatives to Instagram

Mia Goth's representative, Christine Tripicchio, stated that the image was entirely generated by artificial intelligence. Tripicchio emphasized that it is unacceptable for a verified fan account to be allowed to spread fake images and obtain a blue checkmark.

Meta's Decision to Shut Down the Account

The account, which held a blue Meta Verified badge, had been labeled as fan-made, but the blue checkmark caused confusion among users. Meta spokesperson Alex Dziedzan announced that the account in question was shut down on the grounds of impersonating a public figure.

AI Policies and Discussions

Meta does not completely ban AI-generated content depicting real people; instead, it adopts an approach of applying labels to certain content, though it is noted that this labeling requirement does not apply to static images.
