Microsoft has clearly disclosed Azure's quarterly revenue for the first time, having previously shared it only through growth rates or indirect phrasing. The cloud unit, which generated $33.2 billion in revenue during the July-September period, saw a 48% growth year-over-year.

As part of its record revenue achieved in the July-September quarter, Microsoft shared Azure's performance in dollar terms with the public for the first time. This move allowed investors to directly compare Azure's performance with Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services. In the same period, Google Cloud reported $30.7 billion in revenue, placing Azure slightly above that figure.

Azure's 48% growth rate exceeded the 44% to 45% forecasts projected by Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood during the July earnings call. As Microsoft's largest and fastest-growing product group, Azure accounted for approximately 36% of Microsoft's total quarterly revenue of $92.3 billion.
