Microsoft to Discontinue Copilot Support on LG and Samsung Smart TVs
Microsoft has decided to completely terminate support for the Copilot AI assistant on LG and Samsung brand smart televisions during 2026.
Microsoft is preparing to end support for the Copilot AI assistant on all smart televisions, including LG and Samsung models. The decision came to light through on-screen notifications appearing on TVs running the webOS operating system.
Microsoft is ending support for the Copilot AI assistant offered on LG and Samsung smart televisions within this year. The situation came to light through an in-screen notification encountered by Zac Bowden of the Windows Central team on his webOS-based LG television. The notification stated that Microsoft has decided to end support for Copilot functionality across all TVs and that the feature may stop working shortly. While it was noted that the exact schedule depends on Microsoft, the service is planned to be terminated throughout 2026.
Last December, LG had added a non-removable Microsoft Copilot shortcut to televisions via a webOS update, drawing user backlash. Following the reactions, LG allowed this shortcut, which had been added without approval, to be deleted. Copilot functioned as an AI assistant on TVs that chatted with users, provided information about what was on the screen, or suggested series and movies. However, Microsoft has recently been focusing on positioning Copilot as a business and productivity tool rather than a digital companion.
