The Ministry of Trade has closely monitored discounted sales advertisements throughout November, regardless of the medium, in order to prevent consumer grievances and protect them from deceptive advertisements.
The Ministry of Trade announced that discounted sales advertisements will be monitored throughout November regardless of the medium to prevent consumers from being misled and experiencing grievances. In this process carried out in line with ex officio investigations and consumer complaints, administrative fines ranging from 99 thousand 339 TL to 39 million 916 thousand 524 TL can be levied for advertisements determined to be deceptive or misleading, depending on the medium where the advertisement was published and the nature of the violation.
While it was stated that the rules for discounted sales advertisements were updated with the legislative change that entered into force on August 1, it was noted that practices such as discounts that do not reflect the truth, failure to base calculations on the lowest price of the last 10 days before the discount, failure to include start and end dates, and misleading consumers by stating multiple discount rates together could harm economic interests. It was emphasized that complaints can be submitted to the Advertising Board.
