Missiles hit Kyiv after Russia agrees to resume Ukraine peace talks

Shortly after Russia expressed its readiness to return to peace talks, Ukraine's capital Kyiv was the target of a missile attack carried out on Wednesday night. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced that six people were injured and some houses were damaged as a result of the attack.

The attack took place during diplomatic contacts carried out by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, following US President Donald Trump's statements that the end of the war is near. Following his contacts in Oslo, Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

Although details regarding the content of the talks have not yet been clarified, it is stated that security guarantees and energy ceasefire proposals for Ukraine are on the table. Russian official Yuri Ushakov suggested that a new round of talks could be held in Abu Dhabi around November 10. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he might look favorably upon an agreement involving freezing the war at the current front line.

As part of this activity in the diplomatic process, Russia released Stephen Hubbard, a 74-year-old US citizen who was detained on allegations of fighting on behalf of Ukraine. Trump described this step as a humanitarian gesture.
