Murder suspect in India accused of using AI to fake his own death

In India's northern Uttar Pradesh state, a suspect who staged his own death using AI-generated images to escape a 2016 murder trial and avoid paying accumulated debts has been captured in a police operation.

Thirty-eight-year-old Rajkumar Rajbhar was apprehended during a police operation in the Mau district of India's Uttar Pradesh state. It was disclosed that the suspect plotted his death to evade the trial he was facing over the December 2016 killing of Yogesh Singh. According to the police investigation, Rajbhar used an AI-assisted image of a goat's funeral to convince the court that he had died and obtained an official death certificate from the Mau Municipality.
