Natural gas production in the Black Sea will double: Osman Gazi begins duty
The Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, sent off with a ceremony held at Zonguldak's Filyos Port, will increase gas production in the Black Sea to 20 million cubic meters per day.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a video message to the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform Farewell Ceremony held at Filyos Port in Zonguldak. Erdoğan announced that thanks to this platform, natural gas production in the Black Sea will double, reaching 20 million cubic meters per day, and starting from the beginning of 2027, every one in three households in Turkey will use domestic natural gas.
The Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform Farewell Ceremony was held at Filyos Port in Zonguldak. Sending a video message to the ceremony, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan wished that the platform, decorated with the colors of the red flag, would be auspicious for the country and the nation.
Recalling that they announced in July 2024 that the first floating production platform would be brought to Turkey, Erdoğan stated that they sent off the platform, whose name they determined as "Osman Gazi" last May, from Dolmabahçe Palace to Filyos. Emphasizing that a new page has been opened in energy history, Erdoğan said, "We are sending off Osman Gazi, which is virtually a floating industrial facility, to its duty station, the Black Sea. Osman Gazi is the first factory of the 'blue homeland', which is the maritime equivalent of our Turkey's Century vision."
Touching upon the technical features of the platform, Erdoğan noted that Osman Gazi is an energy fortress with a length of 298.5 meters, a width of 56 meters, a depth of 29.5 meters, and a capacity of 140 personnel. It was conveyed that the platform, which houses 21 different units, will process the gas it receives from the wells in the Sakarya Gas Field and send it to Filyos via pipelines laid under the sea.
As a result of these developments, it was announced that natural gas production in the Black Sea will double, reaching 20 million cubic meters per day, and starting from the beginning of 2027, 1 out of every 3 households will begin using domestic natural gas.
