NAVTEX Issued for Turkey-TRNC Natural Gas Pipeline Project
A NAVTEX has been announced to carry out underwater studies and scientific research in the Mediterranean as part of the planned natural gas pipeline project between Turkey and the TRNC.
A NAVTEX was issued to enable scientific research and underwater studies in the Mediterranean between October 26 and December 31, 2026, for the natural gas pipeline project planned between Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
According to the announcement published by the Antalya NAVTEX Station on October 23, the activities to be carried out at 12 designated coordinates in the Mediterranean will take place between October 26 and December 31, 2026, and the notice will be lifted on that date. The research and underwater activities will be conducted by the vessels R/V Denar Pathfinder, Denar Echo, Denar Explorer, and Kırıcı, and mariners passing through the region were requested to navigate at a safe distance from these vessels.
The project aims to deliver natural gas from Turkey to the island in the future and strengthen the energy supply security of the TRNC. According to evaluations, this initiative stands out as one of the significant steps to develop the energy infrastructure between the two countries, following the water supply line previously constructed under the sea from Turkey to the TRNC.
