New Era Began in Private Health Insurance
With the new regulation prepared by SEDDK, the option of lifelong renewal guarantee for those under 60, a 3-year uninterrupted insurance requirement, and new rights have been introduced.
The private health insurance regulation prepared by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) entered into force as of January 1, 2026. While the new regulation offers the option of a lifelong renewal guarantee to insured individuals under the age of 60, it introduced the condition of being insured continuously for at least 3 years and having a claim/premium ratio below 80 percent in order to acquire this right.
With SEDDK's new regulation, it has become mandatory to offer contracts containing the commitment of a lifelong renewal guarantee to individuals who have not yet reached the age of 60. Citizens can choose policies with or without this guarantee in line with their preferences. For insured individuals who earn the lifelong renewal guarantee, the coverage scope cannot be narrowed, limits cannot be reduced, or additional premiums cannot be applied by citing diseases that emerge later. The rights of insured individuals who change companies are protected by being tracked through a central system.
