New Era Started in Installment Shopping
With the decision published in the Official Gazette, standard installment limits on non-housing purchases were lifted, and all authority was transferred to the Ministry of Trade.
With the regulation amendment published in the Official Gazette, the 12-month installment limit applied to installment sales of goods and services other than housing was lifted, and the authority to determine durations was granted to the Ministry of Trade.
Regulation Amendment and Official Gazette Process
The regulation amendment regarding installment sales in retail trade, prepared by the Ministry of Trade, entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette dated October 15, 2026. This arrangement opened the doors to a new era in the shopping world.
Installment Limits Lifted
Within the scope of the amendment made to Article 12/B of the Regulation on Principles and Rules to be Applied in Retail Trade, all existing provisions regarding installment durations were reconsidered and removed. The new regulation directly affects the shopping sector.
Sectoral Differences Ended
Existing limitations differentiated based on specific periods and amounts for various sectors such as air transportation, travel, accommodation, furniture, electronic devices, and white goods were also completely eliminated with this decision.
Past Practices Left Behind
In previous periods, installment durations in consumer shopping were generally applied within limited periods ranging from 3 months to 12 months on a sectoral basis. The new decision radically changes this system.
Authority Rests with the Ministry of Trade
According to the amended Article 12/B of the regulation, the Ministry of Trade has become the sole authorized body to determine installment durations and introduce additional limitations in installment sales of goods and services other than housing.
Announcements and Internet Postings
Within the framework of the regulation, it was stated that all decisions to be made by the Ministry of Trade regarding installment periods will be announced on the institution's official website and notified to the relevant upper professional organizations.
