New Oil Discovery in the North Sea
Millions of barrels of resources have been discovered in a new exploration off the coast of Norway, with plans to connect production to existing facilities.
Norwegian energy company Equinor and its partners have announced the discovery of 19 million to 50 million barrels of oil equivalent resources at the Grimsnes field in the North Sea.
New Resource at the Grimsnes Field
Norwegian energy company Equinor and its partners Petoro and TotalEnergies have found new oil and natural gas resources near the Oseberg field in the North Sea.
Reserve Volume and Estimates
According to initial calculations, the recoverable resource amount in the discovery named Grimsnes is between 19 million and 50 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Europe's Energy Supply
Norway meets approximately 20 percent of Europe's oil needs and 30 percent of its natural gas needs, standing out among alternative supply channels.
Production and Infrastructure Plan
Instead of building a new production platform, the company aims to produce the resource by connecting it to existing subsea facilities via the Oseberg Sør platform.
Timing and Investment Target
Equinor and its partners plan to make an investment decision in the summer of 2027 and start production within three years, thereby aiming to reduce infrastructure investment.
