New regulation for patients with medical reports: Medications can be obtained directly from pharmacies

Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu signaled a new regulation that will prevent citizens with medical reports and chronic conditions from applying to the hospital solely to have prescriptions written. With this planned study, as long as there is no change in the treatment, medications can be obtained directly from pharmacies throughout the validity period of the report.

Purpose of the Regulation

A new study is being carried out concerning citizens who use regular medication due to chronic illnesses. Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu aims to prevent patients with medical reports from repeatedly applying to the hospital solely to have medication prescriptions written.

How the Application Works

According to the planned application, medications prescribed once by a doctor can be obtained from pharmacies during the validity period of the report without the need to have a new prescription written, as long as no changes are made to the treatment.

Diseases to be Covered

Turkish Pharmacists' Association General Secretary Taner Ercanlı stated that which disease groups and medications will be included in the scope are not yet finalized. It is stated that it may start with medications for chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and COPD in the first stage.

The Role of Pharmacies

Taner Ercanlı conveyed that pharmacies are ready for this application in terms of infrastructure and equipment. It was noted that pharmacies, serving at more than 31,000 points across Turkey, can ease the burden on the healthcare system by facilitating the procurement process of regularly used medications.

Targeted Calendar

According to information on NTV, this new regulation, which will enable reported medications to be obtained directly from pharmacies, is targeted to be implemented by the end of the year.
