Nedim Özbey, who has served in Turkish volleyball for many years, stated that Spor Toto's fourth-place finish last season was a significant achievement. Explaining that injuries made it difficult for them to reach higher positions, Özbey expressed that they achieved the desired rank with a narrow roster.

Stating that they ensured key names remained in the squad and re-integrated former player Ulaş Kıyak into the team, Nedim Özbey noted that they want to build an ambitious team heading into European cups.
The Birth of the Name 'Lords of the Net'
Mentioning his past tenure in the national teams, Nedim Özbey recounted how the name 'Lords of the Net' (Filenin Efeleri) came about during the period when they experienced a world championship in Izmir. He stated that he gave this name inspired by the fact that the city where the matches were played was the land of the 'efes' (aegean lords) and by his son's name.
