North Korea Announces AI-Powered Torpedo Test
North Korea announced that it successfully conducted an underwater test of its new high-speed Haeil-2.0 torpedo system equipped with artificial intelligence technology.
North Korea conducted an underwater test on Thursday of a new precision-guided torpedo system featuring artificial intelligence-powered target acquisition and guidance capabilities.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the test of the "super-fast" Haeil-2.0 torpedo system was conducted to verify technical updates and demonstrated improvements in propulsion efficiency and rocket propulsion device performance. KCNA stated that this test followed more than 180 different tests conducted over the past five years.
Analysts state that the AI integration could enable the torpedoes to execute evasive maneuvers, make autonomous decisions, and distinguish real targets from decoys deployed by South Korea and the US. The launch took place amid high tensions on the Korean Peninsula and ongoing arms development races between the two countries.
