DLSS 5 gets toned down for its Hogwarts Legacy debut next month

Nvidia has significantly softened DLSS 5 technology—which initially drew criticism for extreme and bizarre facial transformations—ahead of the November 5 release of Hogwarts Legacy. The company also announced new updates and app betas that boost neural rendering performance.

DLSS 5 Changes Ahead of Hogwarts Legacy Release

Nvidia's DLSS 5 technology had faced criticism for causing extreme facial transformations in games like Hogwarts Legacy and Resident Evil Requiem. Following this, the technology was made much softer ahead of the game's official November 5 release.

New comparison screenshots shared by Nvidia clearly show that the facial and environmental changes within Hogwarts Legacy are now much more subtle and acceptable.

Upcoming Games and Artistic Control

While DLSS 5 technology is scheduled to meet players with Hogwarts Legacy on November 5, it is also stated to arrive in Where Winds Meet later next month.

Nvidia particularly emphasizes that developers continue to maintain detailed artistic control while integrating this technology into their games.

Neural Render Performance and October Update

Nvidia is improving the performance impact of DLSS 5 with updates brought to its neural rendering system in October. This innovation doubles the speed on RTX 50 series GPUs and upcoming RTX Spark laptops.

According to Andrew Burnes, this update shrinks the model footprint by 24 percent to approximately 118 million parameters and reduces 4K VRAM usage by 20 percent.

New App Beta and Performance Mode

The updated model will first make an appearance in NBA 2K27 on October 16 and will be offered by default with all future DLSS 5-supported titles.

Additionally, Nvidia released a new app beta featuring a faster performance mode in frame generation technology for RTX 40 and 50 series graphics cards.
