Old Water Reservoir Converted Into Science and Space Base in Afyonkarahisar
In Bolvadin, an idle old water reservoir was transformed into the Horan Science House and Space Observatory with an investment of 25 million TL and offered to the service of youth.
Realized with an investment of approximately 25 million TL in the Bolvadin district of Afyonkarahisar, the Horan Science House and Space Observatory brings children and youth together with science, technology, and astronomy.
Carried out by the Bolvadin Municipality in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Zafer Development Agency, the project added a new value to Horan Park. Under the leadership of Mayor Derviş Aynacı, the old elevated water reservoir, which had not been used for years, was restored and transformed into a modern science center.
The facility features a café, a TÜBİTAK Astro Market, a galaxy-themed presentation hall, a panoramic elevator, an observation terrace, and a space observatory. It aims for children to examine the sky with telescopes and develop scientific thinking skills through hands-on activities. In addition, the Bolvadin Municipal Council unanimously approved naming the space observatory after the late Özdemir Bayraktar, one of the pioneers of the Turkish defense industry.
