A fire that broke out on Friday night at the historic Kehlsteinhaus building in Germany's Bavaria state, known as the 'Eagle's Nest', caused extensive damage to the structure.

The fire at the building, located at an altitude of 1,834 meters on the Obersalzberg hill, was detected around 21:15 when smoke detectors were triggered. Firefighting teams reported that the structure was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene. The fire, which was tackled by around 200 firefighters, was brought under control with difficulty due to the high altitude and challenging access conditions.

Police teams detained a 33-year-old German citizen on suspicion of being connected to the incident. Authorities stated that the suspect had ties to the region but did not reside there. Following his initial interrogation, the suspect, who exhibited mental health issues, was transferred to a psychiatric facility. While authorities are focusing on the possibility that the incident may have been the result of arson, the investigation into whether there was a political motivation is ongoing.

Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann announced that the historic structure will be restored. It was confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident.
