How Ultrafast cut incident investigation from hours to minutes at OpenAI

OpenAI announced that it has optimized internal incident response and technical workflows thanks to a high-speed mode called "Ultrafast" integrated into its Codex AI tool. According to employees, this mode allows engineers to investigate multiple potential causes of system issues simultaneously without losing focus.

Technical staff member Aaron Friel stated that the tool helps search through numerous data sources quickly during incidents. Data center security architect AJ Trbojevic noted that security investigations, which previously took one to two hours, are now completed within 10 to 15 minutes. Other team members, such as Adam Perry and Sayan Sisodiya, emphasized that the increased speed allows them to focus on their tasks rather than waiting for AI processing. Jeff Niu expressed that most of his work with the tool now falls below the 30-second response threshold, enabling faster code editing and daily planning. Additionally, it was reported that this tool is also used for browser-based automation tasks, such as form filling, which were previously considered too slow to be delegated to AI.
