Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform Begins Black Sea Mission
With the commissioning of Turkey's first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, daily natural gas production in the Sakarya Gas Field will double and reach millions of households.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Turkey's first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, will be sent off from Zonguldak Filyos to the Black Sea on October 17, stating that domestic production capacity in the Sakarya Gas Field will be increased to 20 million cubic meters per day.
Domestic Natural Gas Initiative in the Black Sea
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Turkey's first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, will be sent off from Zonguldak Filyos to the Black Sea. The statement emphasized that with this move, domestic natural gas production in the Sakarya Gas Field will be doubled.
Dimensions and Technical Specifications of the Platform
The platform draws attention with its massive size, approximately the length of 3 football fields. Osman Gazi has a total length of 298.5 meters, a width of 56 meters, a depth of 29.5 meters, and houses 21 separate facilities in its superstructure.
Approximately 7,000 people took part in the preparation and modification processes carried out in Filyos. A total of 642 kilometers of electrical cables and approximately 30 kilometers of piping work were applied on the platform.
Production Capacity and Household Support
With the commissioning of Osman Gazi, the number of households meeting their natural gas needs through domestic resources will be increased from 4 million to 8 million. The platform will raise the current production in the Sakarya Gas Field from 9.5 million cubic meters per day to 20 million cubic meters.
Contribution to the Economy and Schedule
Having a personnel capacity of 140 people, the platform will operate uninterruptedly in the heart of the Black Sea for 20 years. The gas to be produced by Osman Gazi is projected to correspond to a daily magnitude of approximately 10 million dollars at current prices and contribute 3.5 billion dollars annually to the economy.
Following the send-off of the platform to its duty station, the first gas is planned to be flared from the flare tower by the end of this year, and production is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
