Patient in Zonguldak Saved After Heart Vessel Tears Due to Severe Cough
A 52-year-old woman in Zonguldak's Ereğli district, whose heart vessel tore during a pneumonia-induced coughing fit, regained her health following emergency intervention.
A 52-year-old woman living in Zonguldak's Karadeniz Ereğli district narrowly escaped death when her heart vessel tore due to increased intrathoracic pressure during a severe coughing fit caused by pneumonia.
Pneumonia and Severe Coughing Fit
The 52-year-old female patient residing in Zonguldak's Ereğli district had to struggle with severe coughing fits due to a pneumonia condition she contracted. The severity of the coughing fits paved the way for serious complaints to emerge in the patient's chest region.
Sudden Pain and Heart Attack During Examination
The patient, who applied to the hospital with complaints of chest pain and had no chronic illnesses, reported the seriousness of the situation to her doctor during a severe coughing attack while being examined. It was understood that the patient was having a heart attack, and a decision was made to take her to angiography urgently.
One-in-a-Million Heart Vessel Tear
As a result of detailed examinations, it was determined that the patient's right main coronary artery ruptured spontaneously, unable to withstand the high intrathoracic pressure created by the severe cough. This condition, which is seen once in a million in medical literature, carried a fatal risk.
Successful Angiography Operation and Treatment
In the emergency operation performed by Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yaman and his team, a stent was placed inside the vessel to close the tear and an artificial vascular pathway was created. Thanks to early intervention, the risk of bleeding around the heart was prevented, and the patient was discharged in recovery.
