Record-breaking goal by Yunus Akgün goes down in Galatasaray history
In the UEFA Champions League match where Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2, Yunus Akgün scored in the very 1st minute of the match, recording the club's earliest Champions League goal in history.
Visiting French representative Lille in the third week of the UEFA Champions League, Galatasaray left the field with a 4-2 victory. Capitalizing on Barış Alper Yılmaz's cross in the opening minute of the match, Yunus Akgün became the new holder of Galatasaray's record for the earliest goal in Champions League history with the goal he scored.
Meeting the ball on the left wing right at the start of the match, Barış Alper Yılmaz bypassed his opponent with a stylish body feint and entered the penalty area. Lille's defense failed to clear the ball from Yılmaz's cross with the outside of his right foot. Finding the ball right in front of him in front of the goal, Yunus Akgün shook the net with a close-range shot, putting his team ahead.
In the pre-match press conference, Yunus Akgün had celebrated head coach Okan Buruk's birthday and stated that they wanted to gift him a victory. Making humorous remarks about Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer in the same meeting, Akgün achieved historic success with his performance on the pitch.
