Rent Dispute in Eyüpsultan: Kickboxing Instructor Allegedly Attacks Trainer

In Istanbul's Eyüpsultan district, pilates instructor Selma Y. had an argument with kickboxing instructor Gökhan Ş., who rents the gym, over a rent increase. Selma Y. filed a complaint alleging that Gökhan Ş. assaulted her when the argument escalated, while the suspect instructor denied the accusations and claimed the other party attacked him with a dumbbell.

The incident took place on Tuesday, September 1, at a gym in Eyüpsultan Göktürk Central Neighborhood. According to the allegations, kickboxing instructor Gökhan Ş., who is a tenant of the gym, sublet space and increased the rent for pilates instructor Selma Y. to 40,000 liras. An argument broke out between Selma Y., who reacted to the hike by stating that only 6 months had passed in her lease term, and Gökhan Ş. Selma Y. stated that while she was recording with her phone, Gökhan Ş. cursed at her, kicked and punched her, dragged her on the ground, and caused injuries to various parts of her body as a result. It was learned that Selma Y., who filed a complaint, had 2 prior police records for "intentional injury."

Gökhan Ş., who was taken into custody, stated in his testimony that he gave in to his anger, kicked Selma Y.'s phone when she started recording, and argued that the assault allegations did not reflect the truth. Gökhan Ş. claimed that Selma Y. tried to hit him with a dumbbell and tore his shirt, and noted that they filed mutual complaints. Following the incident, judicial proceedings were initiated against Gökhan Ş. for "intentional injury," "threat," and "insult" offenses.
