Science, Technology and Environment Committee discusses Food Safety Law draft
Meeting in Hanoi, the Science, Technology and Environment Committee discussed planned amendments to the 2010 Food Safety Law. The meeting debated legal regulations addressing current needs such as e-commerce and administrative responsibilities.
The Science, Technology and Environment Committee, chaired by Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai, discussed the envisioned amendments to the Food Safety Law during its Sixth Plenary Meeting held in Hanoi.
Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen stated that the current law, in effect since 2010, has established a fundamental framework but falls short against today's management requirements, inter-agency responsibility ambiguities, and new challenges brought by e-commerce. Consisting of 9 chapters and 74 articles, the new draft aims to improve food safety conditions, risk assessment, and inspection processes.
Deputies taking the floor at the session emphasized that the applicability of the draft and the organizational model must be clarified. The Committee proposed establishing a single management point to prevent overlapping duties and supporting businesses in digital transformation processes. Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Hai stated that the regulations to be made should protect public health while reducing administrative burdens and compliance costs.
