SGK Chief Specialist İsa Karakaş's 2027 minimum wage and pensioner housing loan prediction

While expectations continue among millions of employees and retirees regarding the 2027 salary increases, SGK Chief Specialist İsa Karakaş shared his predictions for the minimum wage and housing loans for retirees based on the parliamentary budget.

SGK Chief Specialist İsa Karakaş examined the tax exemption items in the new year budget submitted to Parliament and projected that the 2027 minimum wage increase would occur at a rate of at least 30 percent. Recalling that the official figure will be finalized as a result of commission deliberations, Karakaş calculated that if a 30 percent raise is implemented, 8,422 lira 65 kuruş would be added to the current net minimum wage of 28,075 lira 50 kuruş, making the new amount 36,498 lira 15 kuruş.

On the other hand, pointing out that the SGK's 2025 budget gave a surplus of 35.7 billion lira, Karakaş presented a formula suggesting that low-interest housing loans could be provided to retirees in cooperation with TOKİ, similar to the institution's past practices. Stating that the institution's money would not be at risk since deductions would be made directly from retirees' salaries, Karakaş argued that rents could fall and retirees could become homeowners with this formula.
